A sculpture I did in the early 90's for my Dad. Frodo takes the ring from the fire and reads the writing now apparent upon it. Sculpted in milliput, the fireplace is made up of stones, the floorboards are stained strips of balsa and the mantle and objects upon it are doll's house furniture. The whole thing is 1:12 scale so Gandalf is just over 6"

Of course after all these years it's only just occured to me that Gandalf wouldn't be holding the ring. I think he has it in some tongs in the book (and the movie) and he wouldn't be wearing his hat and cloak and brandishing his staff. I think he'd been sitting by the fire for a while talking to Frodo.

It occurs to me now that a better model might have been Gandalf meeting Bilbo at the front door to Bag End. Never mind, my Dad loved it anyway.

It's a beautiful model! And even if it's not 100% accurate, really, who cares? Watching movies based on novels I realised they are never 100 % like the books.

That actually looks more how I imagined Bilbo Baggins

Yes, I keep thinking it's Bilbo. Have to keep reminding myself it's Frodo. I might have actually been thinking it was Bilbo while I was making it. I can't remember, it was a looooong time ago.

"No Gandalf you idiot, it's NOT cool, not in the slightest. It'll kill us all if it has its own way."

On the other hand though, the sculpture is more than quite cool, it's wonderful :)
I love the idea of using mixed materials instead of just the one.
